Early bag quality control and conditioning for stable downstream performance
The BIU combines three functions in one integrated unit: Waste Conveyor, Bag Conditioner, and Bag Airfill Checker with reject.
Installed directly after the bagger either as a standalone module or integrated in the line, the BIU receives bags as they exit the VFFS bagger and prepares them for reliable case packing.
The waste conveyor guides bags toward the main infeed while enabling early separation of loose product. The open “wire” layout allows loose product (e.g., snack pieces from a poor seal or damaged bag) to fall away instead of being carried forward, reducing contamination and manual cleanup.
Next, the bag conditioner redistributes product inside each bag. This prevents the contents from settling on one side or compacting at the bottom, improving bag geometry and stability for stacking, pattern-building, and side-loading.
Finally, the bag airfill checker performs inline inspection of air content and detects typical bag defects such as leaks, empty bags, and double bags (two bags stuck together due to incomplete separation). Non-conforming bags can be rejected before they enter the case packer, preventing jams, unstable patterns, and unplanned stoppages.
By combining conditioning and inspection early in the line, the BIU supports higher speeds, fewer interruptions, improved pack quality, and higher overall equipment effectiveness.
